Anita York

Anita York is a partner with the law firm of Scott & Whitehead and devotes her practice to the representation of employers. On behalf of businesses, Ms. York has litigated issues in a variety of areas, including single plaintiff and class action wage and hour matters, as well as wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims. Her counseling practice includes advising employers on a broad range of employment-related matters, and the review and preparation of employee handbooks. Ms. York also conducts internal investigations, and counsels clients who are conducting internal investigations in response to employee complaints of discrimination or harassment. Prior to joining Scott & Whitehead, Ms. York practiced employment law and commercial litigation with Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison's Orange County office.

Ms. York earned her law degree from the University of Southern California where she was the Chief Production Editor for the Review of Law and Women's Studies. She was also a quarter-finalist in the prestigious Hale Moot Court Honors Program. During law school, Ms. York served as an intern with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and as an extern with the Los Angeles Superior Court. Ms. York also served as legal assistant to legal pundit and Professor, Susan Estrich. Additionally, Ms. York performed legal services as a volunteer with the AIDS Service Center in Pasadena. Ms. York was named the 1996 recipient of the National Association of Women Lawyers Recognition Award.

Prior to entering law school, Ms. York enjoyed a successful fifteen-year career in business management. During this time, she worked in operations management for a national wholesale distributor, a recruiting firm, a multi-site printing organization and an architectural firm. This first-hand business experience has proved to be particularly valuable as she has counseled employers through the complex employment issues they face.

Ms. York served as the 1999 Chair of the Orange County Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section. In this capacity, she was responsible for coordinating educational programs and meetings throughout the year for the Section's 300-attorney membership.

Ms. York is a member of the Orange County Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section, and is a past Chair. She is also a Charter Member of the California Association of Workplace Investigators.

Ms. York resides with her family in Laguna Hills, California.
